In our Kindergarten program, math is a voyage of discovery. Many children come to us in September, already counting and recognizing some numbers. But Math is more that counting from 1-10. The seeds we sow in Kindergarten lay the groundwork for higher-order math thinking in the upper grades. Being able to find patterns with ease, or deconstruct a number in many ways is crucial for the primary grade mathematician. Likewise, immediate recognition of tally marks or the numbers on a die will give our little learners a skill-set that will allow them to concentrate on mathematical processes in the future, rather that counting the number of dots they see on the die for example.
Here is a product I use to work on those skills. It is a card game, and everyone loves games. I play it like concentration or “Go-Fish”.
